Reach out

"Be the change you wish to see in the world." --Gandhi

It is so easy to bemoan the problems we see in daily life. But how much better it would be if we could take some action!

If you think about it, you have gifts that many people need. Maybe you are empathic or a good listener or organizer. Why not put those wonderful traits to work in helping others?

Even as busy as we all are, we can take a few moments to reach out and contact someone who is ill or suffering in some way. Every day names come across our radar. But what do we do about it?

I'm as guilty as the next person of listening without acting. I want to do a better job of responding when I hear that someone has had a misfortune or has suffered a setback of some sort. Maybe it is just a phone call. Maybe it is showing up to do whatever I can--or just be present with the person.

Can you make a commitment to yourself today to respond in a different way to the next story of pain you hear?
