Be Thankful for Loved Ones

My sister has Alzheimer's. Her condition has deteriorated quickly. Last week I got to spend a couple of days with her at my house. Even though there was a good deal of confusion, her memory about old times was nearly perfect--better than mine.

This time with her and the loss of my other sister two years ago reminds me to treasure the moments we have with our loved ones. We have no guarantee they will be with us tomorrow or in a frame of mind to interact with.

My time with her was precious and I don't know how many more days like that I will have with her. But I am thankful for every one.

Take a moment and say a prayer of thanksgiving for the loved ones in your life.

________

Father, help us to value the here and now, the precious moments we have with each other.

Amen
