The Benefits of Gradual Change

We talk a lot about finding balance in six main areas: Fatherhood, Careers, Marriage, Sex & Intimacy, Spirituality, and Meaning. But that doesn't mean you have to go full throttle into addressing all of these aspects at once—this kind of drastic change can be daunting and hard to keep up with. Instead, gradual change is a much more effective approach when seeking balance in life. By making small changes one step at a time, you can achieve big results without feeling overwhelmed.

Small Changes Lead to Big Results

When looking for ways to improve your life, it can be tempting to jump head first into a complete lifestyle overhaul. While this may seem like the quickest way to get results, it’s often unsustainable over the long term. Instead of going from zero-to-one hundred overnight, why not focus on small changes that will make a big difference?

Start by choosing one of the core areas, and choose one concrete action you can take to improve it just the tiniest bit:

  • Make a point to express affection for your partner

  • Take an extra 15 minutes to spend with your kids

  • Make an extra effort to connect with a co-worker you've not gotten to know

Making gradual changes allows you to take the time needed to adjust and stay motivated along the way. That means that if you miss a day or slip up here and there, it won't lead to an all-or-nothing situation where you give up on your goals altogether. With gradual change, there's no pressure—you simply pick back up where you left off and move forward with your plan!

Find Your Why & Stick To It

It's also important to focus on why you're making these changes in the first place—knowing your “why” will help keep you motivated and on track when things get tough (because they will). Whether it’s improving your health, finding more joy in life or achieving financial freedom, having a clear goal in mind can help keep you focused and moving forward towards your desired outcome. Keep reminding yourself of why you started this journey in the first place—this will help ensure that any setbacks don't derail your progress completely!

No matter what goals you set for yourself or how far away those goals may seem right now, remember that gradual change is key when trying to find balance in life as a man! Start by setting small achievable goals that don't require too much effort so they become habits quickly; then build on success as momentum grows with each milestone achieved along the way. Finally, always remember why you're doing this and keep sight of the end goal so nothing stands between you and achieving true balance in life!
